YDL Match Report


Youth Development League Match 1. Derby 01 May 16.

Ten Grantham AC athletes competed in the first round of the Youth Development League match at Derby on Sunday. Despite the cold and windy conditions they achieved 11 personal best performances.

In the under 20 Women’s match Amy Newell won the Pole Vault at 1.95m. She came 4 th in the Discus 17.48m and 6 th in the Javelin with a personal best through of 13.86m. GAC had 4 ladies competing in the under 17’s. Abbie Byron in the 2 nd in the 200m 27.01s and 3 rd in the 300m, 45.56s. Saskia Hunt in the 3000m, 6 th 13:32.26 and Discus “B” 4 th 10.83m. Eve Jacobs gained 2 PB’s in the High jump and Triple jump, Eve won the High jump at 1.5m and came 3 rd in the Triple jump at 9m. She also came 4 th in the long jump 3.39m. Gabbie Lord competed in the Shot, discus and hammer coming 5 th in the shot and discus and 3 rd in the hammer with distances of 6.41m, 14.82m and 31.36m respectively. The girls also ran the 4 x 100m relay finishing 6 th in 64.7s.

In the under 20 men’s events Jordan Stokes ran in the 100m and 200m finishing 2 nd in 11.55s and 3rd in 23.69s respectively. Owen Penton-Voak gained 2 PB’s in the Shot and Discus coming 4 th in the shot 8.82m and 2 nd in the discus 30.62m. Owen also competed the Javelin finishing 2 nd at 31.54m.

Under 17 men. William Tucker won the 3000m in a personal best time of 10:01.6, Will also gained a PB in the Discus at 18.48m finishing 5th and ran the 200m, 31.99s 5 th . George Hatton gained 2 PB’s in the 800m “B” race and Javelin finishing 3 rd in 2.26.83m and 5 th 9.15m. George also ran the 1500m finishing 4 th in 4:56.17. Aaron Hunt won the 800m knocking 11 seconds from his PB in 2:07.35. Aaron also competed in the Discus “B” finishing 3 rd in a PB of 10.45m. Jordan, Will, George and Aaron also entered the U20 4 x 100m relay finishing 4 th in 55.43s.

Well done to the 10 athletes on some fine performances. We really do need to attract other Under 17 and Under 20 age group athletes to take part in future matches. The YDL is a great way of testing yourself against athletes from other clubs and often those competing at a much higher level. There is also a really good team atmosphere.
