Match Report – Lincs County Athletics Champs – Boston

Junior Athletes Take Team Silver

At the Lincolnshire County Athletics Championships, held on 07/01/18 at Castle Dyke, Boston, Grantham AC had numerous athletes competing. The course is notorious for being a gruelling test of character with a knee-deep waterway to get through. In the U11 age group Thomas Broadley had his best result of the season so far coming in 5th place, whilst Meriel Sheard had a great run coming 3rd. In the U13 girls Championship race Ffion Trundell (7th), Mazel Brown (12th) and Megan Tremain (16th) took on the 2.5km course with real courage, and all three gained places in the run in to the finish. The places earned them the County team Silver award.

U17 athlete Isabel Hobday took on the 4.4 km course, that included the frozen ‘water feature’, with poise as she paced the race perfectly taking individual Silver. The U15 boys have had a good season to date so went into the race full of confidence. The team took bronze with Ewan Rodell 4th, Harry Denton 5th, Rori Rodell 8th and Peter Braybrook 11th.

William Tucker, running in the U17 age group, continued his promising season by taking the individual bronze. The veteran men had to tackle the water jump 4 times as they completed the 10.1 km race, however this did not deter Stephen Hobday who battled well to come in 8th. These great performances also mean that many Grantham AC athletes will gain automatic selection for the County Team, that competes in the National Inter County Championships on the 10th March.
