On the 4 March Grantham Athletic Club holds its annual Newton’s Fraction half marathon and Little Apple fun run. Just this morning I have received a message to say the race is full! 500 entries. Plans are well advanced with all the permissions, licences and sub-contractors booked.
What remains to be finalised are the 60 plus volunteer roles to be filled in the stadium and around the course. Here goes with the sales pitch – 4 March it could be wet, icy, snowing or a beautiful spring morning. Whichever it is nearly 500 people and their friends are coming to SK Stadium to pound the roads. Here is the chance for you to help make it happen.
We need lead and rear cars and cyclists, bag handlers, registration, meet and greeters, drink stations, marshals, goodie bags dispensers and DJ. And, 20 minutes before the race starts, two people to restock the loo rolls… Road running can be so glamorous!
Again this year Inspire + young ambassadors will be helping with Little Apple and the finish at the half marathon.
If you can spare 6 hours on that Sunday to point, clap and cheer tired runners through the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside and the Earlesfield speak with Dave Eldridge, Keith Measures or me, or drop me an email. Members can expect to be approached by us as well!
The feedback we get every year is how welcoming, helpful and friendly everyone is for this well organised race. For a free drink and a bap, come well layered up and help.
My best wishes for a dry day!
