Poppy Run 2018 – 07/11/18

Grantham Athletic Club will again host the Armistice Day Poppy Run at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium on Wednesday 7th November 2018. Members of GAC, Belvoir Tri and Grantham Running Club will join to raise funds for the Royal British Legion by offering a number of events to commemorate armistice Day.

Armistice Day commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allied Forces and Germany at 11 o’clock on the 11th of November 1918 to mark the cessation of hostilities on the West Front of World War One. This year is particularly poignant being the 100th anniversary of the end of that terrible conflict. The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants.

A number of events are available to participate in:

  • An 11 minute run for kids and others that feel that would be right for them – starts at 19:14
  • A 44 minute run (11th minute, 11th hour, 11th day, 11th month) – starting at 19:30
  • Long Jumpers and shot throwers can participate in team events to throw or jump a total of 111 metres (max 4 participants per team).

There will be small prizes for the top three men, women and all children.

The cost is £5 on the night, of which 50% covers stadium costs and 50% is donated to the charity. We will be open from 18:30.

Alternatively, there is a virtual race medal that is available for a donation of £12.99, of which £5 goes to charity: https://racethedistance.com/collections/frontpage/products/armistice-day-2018-poppy-cwgc-race-virtual-race-certificate-and-medal – participants that purchase the medal will need to pay £2.50 entrance to cover stadium costs.

Please ensure that you wear club kit as we will be photographing the event for the website and the Journal.
