The culmination of the Sportshall Season 2018/2019 saw Jonathan Esiwe, as the sole competitor representing Lincolnshire as the U15 all-round winner of the Regional Finals. The UK final was held at the Etihad Campus in the hall next to the Manchester Athletic track.
All the winning athletes from the regional areas came together for the final to decide the UK winners. The regions being Lincolnshire, Surrey, Devon, Bristol, Kent, Norfolk, Berkshire, Derbyshire, London, Yorkshire, Northumberland, Liverpool, Manchester, South Wales, Donegal and Nottinghamshire.
Jonathan’s first event was the 2 lap race which is his favourite event. With a good turn of speed he finished first in his trial and after count back of 34 runners he came in 3rd place and was presented with a Bronze Medal, being only .02 seconds behind the winner. In his next event, the Standing Long Jump, he attained 2.54 metres putting him in 10th place out of 34. Jonathan’s last event was the Shot Putt scoring 10.17 metres, giving him 15th place out of 34.
Overall, Jonathan came a very commendable 10th place out of 65 U15 boys with 247 points. The winning score was 284 points.
The Outdoor Season starts this Sunday 28th April at the Derbyshire venue. Could all available athletes in the Young Athletes League please contact Jo McGrath. Training nights are Monday and Wednesday 7 – 8.30pm for over 11s. U11’s training is on Wednesday at 6 – 7pm.
