Little Apple, Big Fun

Lara Hindmarsh – first female home
Joseph Monk – first male home

Taking place as the same time as the Newton’s Fraction Half Marathon was Grantham Athletic Club’s Little Apple Fun Run, a 3k route starting and ending on the track at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium on Trent Road. The runners headed onto Trent Road and right onto Dysart Road, taking a first right past Ambergate School and onto the footpath running behind the Meres Leisure Centre to emerge back onto Trent Road near Spittlegate School and headed back to the Stadium. A field of sixty five runners, with ages ranging from 17 months to their 70s, ran the course.

First finisher and first male was Newark AC athlete Joseph Monk in 10:02, repeating his success from the previous year when he also came first. Next back were Grantham Athletic Club’s Thomas Broadley in 10:43 and Scott Griffin in 10:46. First female home was GAC’s Lara Hindmarsh in position 7 overall with a time of 12:01 with fellow GAC athlete Olivia Marshall two places behind in 12:20, and Sleaford’s Isabelle Thorpe in 12:49. All entrants completed the course within 35 minutes and received a commemorative medal, and Joseph and Lara were awarded prizes for being first boy and girl back respectively.

Race Director Fraser Marshall said, “We had perfect weather for the race and the feedback we’ve received has been tremendous – everyone has been saying how much they enjoyed themselves. We would like to congratulate all the runners on their achievements and look forward to seeing them next year. We would also like to thank the volunteers and support staff from the Club and Inspire+ for marshaling, timing and result recording.”
